Refrigerating food helps to slow bacteria food thus preserving certain foods for longer periods of time. If you operate a restaurant or a convenient store, ensure you invest in quality commercial refrigerators or coolers to maintain the quality of your stock. Some of the foods that must be refrigerated include:

Sliced Tomatoes

Only sliced tomatoes be refrigerated. Fresh, whole ones tend to turn mealy when frozen.

Pies

Pies straight from the oven should be given time to cool off. Refrigeration will make sure the pie sees another day fresh.

Corn On The Cob

With or without husk, cobs must be preserved in the fridge. The sugar natural content of the corn decreases by 40% after 6 hours at room temperature. However, corn should not be refrigerated for more than 2 days.

Maple Syrup

Maple syrup may seem like it can withstand freshness over a long period but actually, the maximum period is about 1 year. You may be required to move it into the fridge once it is opened before mold starts growing on it.

Jelly

Jelly can go a long time without going bad as long as its jar is still closed. Once opened, it is advisable to refrigerate it since mold and yeast can develop.

Ketchup

Yes, ketchup should be put in the fridge. One may think that due to its high acidity content it can go a long time without going bad. This isn’t the case. Rrefrigeration helps in maintaining its quality and flavor.

Frosted Cupcakes

With all the dairy products used to make the frostings, you should consider putting them in the fridge. This will go a long way in preventing bacteria.

Sliced Melon

Bacteria tend to reside in the dirt on melons. Once sliced, the moisture and sugar make it conducive for the bacteria to grow. To prevent this, refrigeration is a must to keep it safe to eat.

Tortillas

Tortillas make a good alternative to bread. They contain sugar which provides the perfect condition for yeast and fungus to grow. To preserve them, put them in the fridge to prevent the growth of mold.

Natural Peanut Butter

In warm temperatures, the oil in natural peanut butter can go rancid very quickly. While some people prefer storing peanut butter in the pantry they may be exposing it to bacteria. It is best to store it in the fridge after a month.

Butter

Butter, like milk, creates a conducive environment for bacteria if left in the open. You should store it at the back of the fridge and not near the butter compartment by the door.

Nuts

People who buy nuts especially in bulk should know that the oil found in them spoils rather easily. In a month it is best to put them in the fridge.

Milk

Milk stays fresh and longer if it is refrigerated. It goes bad very easily.

Fresh Veggies.

Fresh veggies should first be washed, chopped and then packed properly in a refrigeration container. This includes broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and snow peas. Do not place such foods in a freezer.

Avocados

Avocados kept in the fridge are kept from ripening which can be very useful if you don’t intend on eating them anytime soon.
